"Drawing failed"

Hello,
I am suddenly finding that several of my pictures which used to open fine,
now won't and I get the message "drawing failed" with a little cross in the
middle of the picture. I use Windows picture manager but have tried all the
other Windows programs like picture and fax viewer.
The pictures still open fine in Photoshop and al data seems to be there in
Photoshop.
I cannot find a way of fixing this and would be very grateful if anyone can
help.

Maybe these steps will help:

Go to...Start / Run and type
(or copy/paste):

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

Let us know the outcome.

Hi John,
Thanks for that. I gave it a go and the message came up as you said but the
pictures still will not open other than in Photoshop. Hmmm, it's nuisance. I
suppose it's not crucial because I can open them in Photoshop but i'ts a
nuisance.
It's also strange that these particular pictures do not open, even them if I
download them from the web library where I also have copies although they
work fine in the library. Unafflicted pictures downloaded from the web open
OK from My Pictures too or from the dersktop.

Hi again John,

I seem to have sussed this or how to fix it anyway.
I found that opening the offending image in Camera Raw in Photoshop and then
resaving it and deleting the original, works. The resaved file opens
perfectly from My Pictures. I have absolutely no idea as to why this happens.
All the files affected seem to be Agfa Scala scans but not all my Scala
pictures have been affected.
So what a general and time wasting pain but there you go - the joys of
computing and at least they now seem to work.
Thank you very much for all your help.
Best wishes,
John
