Drag & Drop will not work on two computers :(

Well I was just trying to use the drag & drop feature like I do on a day to
day basis and it doesn't work at all. I can't even drag and drop the desktop
icons.I am trying to do this on the only two computer on my home network. The
machines have WinXP Pro with SP2. I did a full virus and spyware scan on both
and it popped up with about 3 different things on each scan. So everything
that was found was deleted on both machines. So I restarted them both and
neither one still works right. I went to this site
(http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm) and downloaded the "Enable
Drag & Drop" Regestry. I ran that and it didnt do anything. I restarted the
computers again and I still can't drag & drop. All the Dragging and Dropping
that I am doing is all within the same computer. It's not across the network
or anything. I have checked the Setting to disable or enable drang & drop and
it is checked to enable in both IE and within the taskbar settings. One
computer is a storage computer so it is left on all the time but doesnt do
much (No internet surfing or anything), and the other is the computer that I
use all the time. If anybody has any other ideas on what I can do to get the
Drag & Drop feature back please help me out!! Thanks!

Just a thought, try the following:
Right click Start button,
then Properties,
then Customize... button,
then Advanced tab,
in the Start Menu items list, check mark
"Enable Dragging and Dropping".

Good luck, Jimt

It's not just my icons that are doing this. It is everything that you would
ever drag & Drop. Like all of the files within a folder. Lets say that I want
to drag & drop them into another folder. I can't because it doesnt allow me
to. I drag the items over whatever I want to and they just go back to where
they came from. And the Auto Arrange function is disabled.

The System Restore feature in XP may be your easy out from this problem. If
you have not used it previously, look it up in Help and Support.

Although you've done the virus and spyware scan, you may still have an
unwanted startup program interfering with things

Could try
Start > run > "msconfig" > startup tab
Click "disable all" > ok > reboot

See if it clears up the drag and drop problem.

If it does then go back to that startup tab and reintroduce items one by one
by putting a tick by them (starting with those you recognise) / try to
identify the offending startup item

I have tried everything stated above and nothing has effected the Drag &
Drop. the wierd thing is that this is happening on both computers.

Zac, you are right that having the problem on both computers is very weird.
If I were in your situation, I might consider disabling the network while
working on the problem. Then I would try the various solutions again.
