Drag and drop of shortcut icon

I am having a problem with the dragging and dropping of a
shortcut icon when I right click in the programs menu form
start>programs then right click the icon and say pin to
start menu XP pro crashes and says do you want to reprot
this error what gives and also when I drag it from the pin
to to start menu to the desktop explorer crashes again.
Please help.
 
If I remember correctly you don't have to drag and drop you can create a
shortcut from the drop down menu in windows explorer.
