dpvsetup.exe failure

Maurice

Hullo,
I have been trying to use a microphen to communicate with
some of my peers through msn messenger and skype but my
friends on the other side don't hear me.. but they can
hear the music that I'm playing on my computer. When I do
a hardware test of my audio, I get an error message that
directplay voice failed and that dpvsetup.exe can't be
opened. I have tried the solution posten on the microsoft
website (article: Q282882,Keywords: kberrmsg kbenv kbprb
kbsound KB282882 ), it still doesn't help. In otherowrds,
my microphone doesn't work because of some software
failure that has something to do with dpvsetup.exe. Can
someone please tell me hoe I can make it work again??
Thanks in advance.

hi there Mauric
i have the same problem but the error report tells me to install DpvSetup from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. I tried it but it doesn't work. So i searched the drive (C:) for the file (DpvSetup.exe) and i found 4 of it! they were in the following directories
1)C:\WINDOWS\system3
2)C:\WINDOWS\ServiePackFiles\i38
3)C:\WINDOWS\RegisteredPackages\{44BBA855-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C
4)C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall
But i don't know how to install them because i tried to open them and nothing happened. So please if you reach a solution contact me at my e-mail adress ([email protected]
Thank

I am having exactly the same issue when I try to add a
microphone. I am running XP Home edition, my son
installed the same microphone on another PC running the
same Operating system version and it went through without
the error.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Furthermore, when I disconnect the microphone from the
pc, I still get the same error, so it's not the mike that
is causing this error.

I'm using a Creative Audigy sound card.

My microphone will not work.

For the last six months I have been trying to get my microphone to
work. I have searched all kinds of message board and the Microsoft
sight for an answer but nothing has worked.

My problem appears to be a rather common one with other window users.
Under the Sound and Audio Devises I click on the voice tab and run
"Test Hardware". After few seconds I get a window that reads
DirectPlay Voice Setup "No suitable networking devices installed." I
click okay and then the message DpvSetup.exe use Add/Remove programs
to install. I follow the instruction from Microsoft but my advanced
setting button is all grayed out.

Please help

I suspect that you are running a McAfee Virus scan. Most likely a 7.0
version. If you are, remove it and that should take care of the
problem. There is a known problem with this version of McAfee and
directsound. Hope this helps!

I have the exact same error, and I ran McAfee Virus
scan. However, after uninstalling McAfee and doing many
many other things to try to test my microphone, I still
have the problem.

I have also reinstalled directX but that doesn't fix
anything. I don't want to reinstall windows. This is
getting pretty ridiculous.
