Dozens of Pop-ups

I am using IE6 to access the internet using a DSL
connection from SBC communications. Lately I have been
getting dozens of pop-ups when accessing the internet...so
many that I can't check email or use the internet to get
information because I can't close the pop-ups fast enough
to use the computer. Is this a virus,worm or trojan? A
virus scan of the hard drive (Norton Anti-virus) comes up
empty without finding anything wrong. Will adware
software help? There are so many pop-ups that it seems
like something is wrong.

I did a system restore bringing the computer back to
its "Out of Box condition". This seemed to help for a
short while but now the pop-ups are back.

Install Pop-Up blocker. They work pretty good. www.panicware.com is good
one. They used to have a free download (basic one). I use that one. Also,
yahoo companion has a good blocker. You can download that free.
