Downloads sessions

I wonder if someone else has experienced the following issue with Windows XP:
When I try to download some files from the network, either by Internet Explorer 6.0 or
by Netscape Navigator 7.1, I only manage to start two concurrent download sessions.
The (start) confirmation of any further download session always waits for at least one
of them to end. I'm not sure where's the problem here (if any?), is it only a "hidden"
registry setting or is it some other's program influence perhaps?
