Hello and thank you for reading this. I need help with a
download problem. I have Windows 2000 Pro, have plenty of
disk space and memory, but can't seem to download updates
available to me. It starts, wants to save it and in the
middle of doing that it stops. Can anybody tell me why it
is doing that? Somebody's help would be greatly
appreciated!!

Is your AV disabled when you download and, more importantly, install them?

I am a novice when it comes to computor jargon, what is
AV?

Yes my Anti Virus is installed and I have tried it both
ways, enabled and disabled.

I had this exact same problem on my machine. So the next day I tried again and it worked. But it's hard to tell whether it'
the Update server at microsoft or Windows 2000.

Usually what that means is that the source you have connected to is in a bad state. It is not you normally. The next time it happens open the command prompt (Start | Run | cmd | OK) and do this ipconfig /all and hit <ENTER>. Now you should see your IP address and the addresses of your DNS servers and other stuff. You can do ipconfig /? to see all the options. One thing you can try is ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew then ipconfig /registerdns. If the download starts again that's sorta great. If not it is the server you have connected to or excess traffic on your network.
