downloading windows messenger to windows vista

I just got a new computer today with windows vista home premium, windows live
messenger will not download. It looks like its doing it but then the window
just diasappears regardless of whether I try to 'run' it or 'save' it. Can
anyone tell me how to fix it?

I have this same problem except when I click the link in the start menu, I am
taken to a blank green screen with only MSN logo as a footer. The download
doesn't try to begin.

I accidently discovered the source of thye issue just after I posted the two
replies. There is an active X control required first. This was offered when
I filled in a .net form.
