Hi,

Does anyone know how to download windows updates onto a
CD. Just I have got a new laptop but I haven't got my
adsl connection onto it yet and want to use my desktop PC
to download the updates and transfer them to the laptop
using CD. The 56k modem is gonna take ages. Any ideas are
greatly appreciated.

Regards

Colin

Hi:

Run and open Windows Update then go to "Windows Update Catalog" under See
Also at left side of screen. Click on it and enter you OS etc. It will allow
you to download update files to wherever you wish to save.

For Critical updates you can go to Windows Update, on the left take
'windows Update Catalog' (you *may* have first to enable display of this
in Preferences). Then take Updates for Operating systems, choose
windows XP (Pro or Home as appropriate) and you will get a list where
you can add the updates to a download basket - then download and burn to
a CD.

For non-critical ones, you can download in Windows Update in the normal
way - and before actually installing, copy the downloaded .exe file out
of Temporary Internet Files. That won't work for optional ones already
on the desktop machine - for those look in its History at Windows Update
for the reference numbers, and there will usually be a direct link on
the related page
