We have to do a massive update on all of our 65 W2K
machines, they all need at least 15 security updates and
patches. Is there a way to download these patches locally
to one machine and install them from there?

Hey anyone have this problem or any ideas.
Have a network of around 110 computers, for some reason 2 of the Windows
2000 severs cannot download updates from microsoft. They are able to go
through and scan for updates, find the updates, when you hit the download
now button, the little agreement window comes up, but then it just doesn't
download anything. Anyone have any suggestions? Would getting a new
version of IE on CD help? Thanks alot
Oh, and for some reason i can post replys to this newsgroup, but can't
create new posts, using OE, any ideas on that

Hi James

If it is just two servers that cannot download updates then you could give a
try to the MS Download Basket. See the following HOWTO Article for more
info:

- "HOW TO: Download Windows Updates and Drivers from the Windows Update
Catalog":

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;323166

Regarding your Download Problem with WU you might want to take a look at the
following MS KB-Article:

- "WINUP-Download Button Does Not Work"

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;291360

and

- "Windows Setup Was Unable to Update Your System Files"

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;125480

Downloading the latest Version of IE is always a good thing to do. You can
download the latest version from here (WebInstaller):

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp

To download the whole IE6 (instead of ordering it on CD) on any machine do
the following:

Download the IE 6 Webinstaller and save it. Once you have done this execute
this command:

Ie6setup.exe /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E""" (be sure to get the directories
right)

This will allow you to download the full IE Installer.

And last, but not least to your OE Problem. Please reed the following KB
Article and see if this can fix it:

- "OLEXP: Cannot Post to a Newsgroup"

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;297166

I hope this solves at least one of your problems. Regards,

Fabio
