Downloading Updates 33% for ages.

W

Weatherlawyer

I have a yellow shield in my system tray stating that I am downloading
updates. No idea from where. Presumably MS updates but why is it stuck at 33%
it's been like that for a while.

I have nVidia firewall that came with the computer and Avast free antivirus.

I would have thought that WinPatrol or SpyBot would have warned me of any
problems. Nothing from any of the above.

I have the updates scheduler set to download and then let me choose what I
want from it.

Thanks to all in advance.

Disable the 'nVidia firewall' and Enable the native XP firewall.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, post the last 50 or so lines of the
WindowsUpdate.log into your reply after initiating a manual visit to
Microsoft Update.
Read the following to learn how to open the WU.log and what to look for:

Absent any serious numerical Errors elsewhere in your windowsupdate.log, you
may be seeing a delay caused by excessive demand on the servers ("Update is
not allowed to download due to regulation"). See:

Updates are not downloaded or the “Automatic Updates†icon does not display
the status of downloads when you enable the Automatic Updates service:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910340

You can try downloading/installing the updates via Windows/Microsoft Update:
Understand that by doing so, you're pushing all other Automatic Updates
users further back in the queue (which may explain, at least in part, why
Automatic Updates hasn't brought them in for you yet).

Thanks for the help. I was thinking it was something in my registry that was
turned off but since the OS is fully functional, I don't need to Panic Now in
nice comforting large red letters.
