downloading professional

I am trying to download microsoft professional with sp2 and after i download
to file i try to open it and it says that the windows cannot open the file
becuase it needs to know what program created it. How do i fix the problem?
the file is en_win_wp_pro_w_sp2.sdc.
I am getting the download from my school not from a cd.

The "school" should have instructions on what to do with said file. It is
probably a CD image of some sort and needs to be burned to an actual CD.
(An ISO if you will.)

Although the only reference for "SDC" file extension I came up with was an
"OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet".

Just how *big* is this file?

You should have downloaded an exe file also along with the sdc file. The exe
file will unpack the sdc file.
