downloading interviews from recording device

I have a Sony IC recorder (B25) and am able to get the interviews onto a hard
drive with clear resolution using an audio cable plugged into a high-input
jack on the CPU. But only into that ridiculous 60-second "Sound"
application! The interviews are hours long. How can I download them in real
time, using the audio cable, into a different application that doesn't
require a USB port for downloading? Right now i'm transferring them to
another device that has a USB port and the quality is absolutely horrendous.

You'll need third party software for that. Your sound card's software may
include that capability, otherwise search the web. You'll have no trouble
finding what you need.

You might try posting this question in rec.audio.pro as well. I'm not
certain what a "high input" jack is, so if you post there, provide a few
more details about your MoBo and any audio interfaces you already
have on board. As someone mentioned, third party software is likely
to be necessary... Sony's "SoundForge Studio" is a compact version
(under $100) of their more eleborate, professional editing suite and
should also provide you with relatively top notch editing ability.
