I also have a problem with not just downloading and installing the "free"
version, I am exhausted with the way IE operates. (which is why I use AOL
because it's faster and accurate.) WHAT IS THE MATTER with www.msn.com and
IE? No matter what website I try to go to, (and I have fast Broadband with
Win XP SP2) I MUST WAIT WHILE THAT LITTLE BLUE BAND AT THE BOTTOM scrolls
across. WHY ISN'T IT any faster? I actually thought I could get Google
Earth FREE to install without that annoying box up at top left with that I X
in it and the error message that will not go away: could not load image

Works fine here! It's something wrong at YOUR end, not IE per se.

I have one hard drive c and a cd drive so where do i go from here?

The default download path needs to be changed then. If you're prompted
for a folder to save the download to, change the drive letter there. If
not, what browser are you using? It may have a place to name the
download path.

Go to Tools > Options
Click "Main" (at the top)
In the middle of the window, either click the radio button next to
"Always ask me where to save files"
OR
click the radio button next to "Save files to" AND THEN click on the
"Browse" button and select the folder where you want downloaded files saved.
Click "OK" at the bottom of the window.

It is already set up to download onto my desktop, which it does. It's when I double click on this the wizzard takes over. I just went to tools like you said, and made a new folder with path. Same results. So the path is set up to go to my harddrive c. That's why I don't understand the error drive e.

What does it say in the Title Bar of the "wizzard" that opens when you
double-click to download a file?

The title bar says Install Shield Wizzard the same as in ff download window.

look like part of the previous post.
If it says "Install Shield" then you have *already* downloaded the file
and saved it to your desktop (or someplace else on your computer). And
now you have double-clicked on that file in order to actually do the
install.
Is that correct?
If that's correct, then your problem is *installing* and not
*downloading*.
Please list *everything* you do starting with
1. double-click Google_Earth_BXV (or GoogleEarthwin)
2.

Itold you I was new at this I can't even get it to skip a line before I answer!!!!I get the download onto my desktop. From there I double click on the GOOGLE EARTH icon. That's when the install shield wizzard starts. That goes away, and installing google earth window comes up showing the process in progress. It then stops, and the error message says Error 1327. invalid drive:E:/

Thank you so much for all your help. I found this same page before. I went in but did't find the exact entry so did't dare change anything.I'll take your advice and seek professional help. There was no value listed in that section so that could be the problem. If I resolve this I'll let you know so you can help others. Again THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Type e: into the search pane, press Enter. If there are any "hits",
post back with their location (shown on the status bar at the bottom of
the window).

such as /e or ,e was corrupted, and then misinterpreted as a reference
to the E: drive., so you might not find "e:" in regedit.
Type e: into the search pane, press Enter. If there are any "hits",

You could also use System Restore to change to a date before the problem
first occurred. You'd have to reinstall any programs that were
installed after that date, including Windows updates.
