Downloading Files

J

Jim

I recent days, I have been unable to download software
from the Internet. A couple of examples:

Trying to update iTunes software from that website.

Trying to download some disk labeling software from
Avery's website (avery.com).

When clicking the download icon, the usual FILE DOWNLOAD
window appears with the animation active (the piece of
paper flying through space), but nothing really happens.
As far as I can tell, the download window would remain on
my screen forever, indicating something happening when
nothing does.

Additional facts: I'm running XP on an old 433Mhz Celeron
and 256 Mb SDRAM. I have a 13Gb hard drive with about
5.5 Gb of unused space.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

disregard.

Thank you.

What file type?

If it is only .exe files, then read on and see if this is relevant:
You may have an invalid plugin.
Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer
[Q303401]
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303401

Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe
Start-Run-Regedit.exe
Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a
normal safety precaution.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe

If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed.
The key does not normally exist.
