Downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader .pdf files

I'm trying to download an IRS 1040 .pdf file. I have downloaded a 2560 KB Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 application (AdbeRdr60_enu) and the IRS 1040 file (called f1040). Prompts tell me that the downloaded IRS file is now on my computer. I can see both of these when I do a Windows XP search. Yet I can't open the 1040 file. I keep getting this prompt: "c:\documents and settings\Michele ......... \local settings\temporary internet files\content .IE5\OTOJ47SF\f1040[1].pdf is not a valid Win32 application." I have a brand new Dell computer. How do I make my Adobe Acrobat application a valid Windows application? I have tried downloading documents from other websites and I get the same type of prompt about the application not being a valid Win32 application.

Did install Acrobat Reader after you downloaded it? Is there a Adobe Reader
Icon on your desktop? If it is, does Reader open when you click the icon?

Then you downloaded the wrong file.

The "AdbeRdr60_enu.exe" file size is 9,143,000 (9,143 KB)
not 2,560 KB. That is the smallest version.
The download page link is
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html fill
in the drop down boxes and you will get the correct
download.
