after i did upgrades the history came up as successful on all, but as i scrolled down they were listed as failed. what is correct? thanks, c.j.

A couple of tests could very easily determine what happened.

The most obvious one is to go ahead and connect to
http://v4.windowsupdates.microsoft.com again and see what updates are
available. The way it is supposed to work is that the updates that have
already been successfully applied are not supposed to show up each
subsequent time you go to windowsupdates ( except, naturally, in the event
that the update has been 'updated' - like with the IE cumulative update ).

Another option would be to install hfecheck and run it to see what was
applied.

Another option would be to look at the log.
