Download problem

Please can someone help me? I have tried four times this morning to
download and save HP Smart Web Printing as suggested on my Problem Reports
and Solutions. Each time about halfway through the download I get the
message "Internet Explorer cannot download Smart_Web_Printing4.0exe from
ftp.hp.com. The connection with the server was reset". Please can you
explain in SIMPLE terms how I can overcome this. The download is to fix an
intermittent problem I have (sometimes on a daily basis) where my Internet
Explorer stops working.

I am not computer literate.

Thanks.

Several solutions....

Perhaps you need to use an FTP client (like WS_FTP) rather than Internet
Explorer, since the URL you gave is for an FTP server, not an HTTP server.
(ftp.hp.com). The full FTP link is:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software10/COL20395/dj-56929-3/HP_Smart_Web_Printing4.0.exe.

I found this link on the Hewlett Packard site about the utility you're
trying to download:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...9-3&product=3551212&os=228&dlc=en&lc=en&cc=us.
This utility is for printing
from a web browser - I'm not sure how it will help you solve your specific
problem (which you haven't really described in detail).
The specific error about the "server was reset" suggests it's taking too
long which in turn suggests the server is (too) busy.

Perhaps it is a simple matter of the server being busy - you may have to
just keep trying.

As a last resort, here's the support contact pages regarding the Smart Web
Printing utility:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...item=dj-56929-3&os=228&dlc=en&product=3551212

I hope these suggestions will present a solution for you.

Use a download manager. These programs keeps track of download progression,
and continue where they left off if the connection was broken in mid
process.

There are many to choose from, even free ones. Here is what you can find at
Windows Marketplace:

I agree with Charlie42.

Downloading with Explorer, Opera, or Mozilla Foxfire is OK provided
the
files is fairly small but for larger files a download manager is HUGE
help.
I recently added something called Internet Download Manager from
Download.com. Understand I still have dial up and I assume a better
internet connection would also help.
