Download Manager? Change number of Multiple downloads?

How can I change the NUMBER of downloads allowed at once?

I have XP prof.
and I have cable ISP

I can only do 3 at a time... I would like to do more at once.

My dad has a MAC (he's from the "other side") and he has IE for MAC and
there is download MANAGER there that he can just click into and change the
number of downloads at a time.

I can't figure out where our SETTINGS for multi-download sessions are.

* PS * not looking for a program I need to purchase for $5,000,000.00
