Download - how can I designate where file is saved on my HD?

E

Edw. Peach

I bought a new computer in November and when I download from the
Internet, do NOT have the option of where the file will be saved.

The FILE DOWNLOAD message box gives me information about how the file
can harm my computer, lists the file name, the file type, where it's
from...another warning about malicious code, and then four buttons to
choose from: open, save, cancel, and more information. When I hit
SAVE, it saves it wherever. I cannot choose.

Also, the "Always ask before opening this type of file" is checked and
disabled.

This is the way I got my computer from Dell. I've been using
computers for over ten years and have always had the option of
deciding where to save downloads. How can I get that option with this
computer? I have described EVERYTHING that is on my download message
box in this post.

Windows XP-Pro

why dont you use a file downloaded?

A good one is called FLASHGET

www.flashget.com

You can choose where you want the downloads to go
you can continue your downloads even if they are stopped at some point and
the downloads are faster.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I've been working with computers for about 12 years now and have
always been able to download files to wherever I want them to
go...until this new computer. I've had WinXP home before getting this
one in November. I expect my current OS to take care of this.

I don't want to need a different program to resolve every Windows
performance failure I encounter.

also try this:

on INTERNET EXPLORER

Go to TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>ADVANCED and press the

RESTORE DEFAULTS button

see if that helps, I value your feedback, if it fixes the problem let me
know.

Kenny:

Maybe you can help me as well... I have downloaded a couple of .exe files
but the computer saves them as .jpg. It seems to be defaulting to a media
player type regardless of what the file is. I've tried to rename...nothing.
I've tried to re-set defaults...nothing.... I tried to download a patch
nothing...PLEASE can you help me?
