Download goes to paint! Why?

OK, if I download something from the internet it goes to paint. How can I
stop this? Like it used to give you options of where to put a download now
it just sends it to paint and paint can't read it!
Talk slow cause I am not the most computer literate person out here!

Assuming that you download the file, then double-click it - and PAINT opens?

Instead, right-click the file and choose OPEN WITH. Locate the
appropriate application for that file type (BROWSE, if necessary, to
that app.) and put a check mark in the "always use" box. Then click OK.

Try a right-click, or a Shift/right-click of the link. One of those
might give you more options in the context menu, such as "Save As".
