Does anyone know how to dowgrade windows xp to windows 98 without formatting
a drive. One of our facility runs better on windows 98. Since microsoft does
not support anymore win 98, we are forced to buy win xp cd. Is there any
software or built in software for win xp to do the downgrade? I know that win
98 and win xp are built on different kernel. Is it possible?

Downgrading to Windows 98 requires a reformat of the hard drive.

No, as others have told you a clean install with formatting would be
necessary. I just thought I'd mention that either Virtual PC or VMWare
might be a good solution for you. Install either one and create a
virtual Win98 machine for the application you need to run. That way you
can continue to use XP and still have your Win98.

Not usually possible.

The normal way to "uninstall" any operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

Only if you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup
the old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, can
you then boot into Safe Mode and click Start > Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions must be met for the
uninstall option to be available.
