I would like to downgrade IE 7 to IE 6 but my Windows XP would not allow me
to do so. Any ideas?

Internet Explorer 7 can be uninstalled by going to Control
Panel -> Add or Remove Programs. Scroll down to Windows
Internet Explorer 7 and hit the Remove button. Uninstalling IE7
should restore IE6 on your system.

Good luck

Exactly *how* are you trying to do this? What does "my Windows XP
would not allow me to do so" mean? What happens when you try? If you
get an error message, please quote it verbatim.

Why do you want to do this? It's almost always a mistake.

Here are the steps:
download the IE6 exe from Microsoft.
uninstall IE7 by add/remove program from Control Panel
run the IE6 exe file

I get the following message from my Window XP
"setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer on this system.
setup cannot continue."

Can you help?

Googling that error message gets a lot of hits. Here are the first

Jumping in the middle of the thread - the way to revert to IE6 is just to
uninstall IE7 and reboot. If that doesn't work, (presumably you have SP2
installed) then insert your XP disc (you will need to slipstream SP2 into
it) and do Start-Run-"sfc /scannow" (without the quotes).

I could not go back to IE6. I am just about to reinstall XP. IE7 gives me a
lot of problems of viewing pdf & mime files. I have enough of it!

Were you ever able to successfully uninstall ie7 and downgrade to ie6? if
so, what were the steps you used? (I need to do this same thing to allow for
remote access to a work computer).

The steps are simple and straight-forward:

Using the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs applet, simply select
Internet Explorer 7 and click the Remove button. The system will revert
to IE6.
