double up of contacts

Leon

Hello

I've been having some problems with my address book and contacts.

When I open the address book it would show the Outlook Address Book, it
would show two contact folders. I only had permission to use one of the
contact folders. The other contact folder I could open but only had about ten
of my most recent address that I had added. I uninstalled the Outlook address
book and re-installed and this has removed the extra unusable contact folder.
the other folder still has ten addressees

The contact folder that is found in the Folder List has close to a hundred
addressees, except for the ten mentioned in the above paragraph.

First question is how do I combine all of the addresses into one area?
and secondly, I want to be able to save email addresses from incoming emails
and I like using the Contacts found on the folder list. Can I save directly
into this folder?

Is there a good link to show me how outlook contacts, address book, and the
contact folder on the folder list works?

Cheers

Your symptoms tell us that the Contact Folder you are displaying in the
address book view is different than the one that contains all your Contacts.
Use "Folder List" view to display your entire folder hierarchy. I suspect
you will find more than one Contacts Folder present in your profile.

Hi,

I had a look in the address book and there is only one Contacts available,
this one is the one that has ten of my contacts showing. I had a look to see
if I could change to a different view but the only option was to remove the
toolbar.

My folder list heirachy (I assume you were talking about what is in my
folder list on the left hand side) has only one contact folder. This contact
folder has close to a hundred contacts.

When I right-click on a email address contained within an email and select
add to Outlook Contacts, it directs me to the conacts that only has ten
addresses.

When writing an email and wanting to look up an address (by pressing the
"To" button), I only get access to the same small contact list.

I would love to able to save new email addresses into one file. And when
looking up an address I want to be able to see all of my contacts.

this has been going for some time and I've been trying to find a resolution
that will fix it. Very recently, I added my hotmail account into Outlook.
Since then, I have my Personal Folders (with the correct icon), My hotmail
account folders, and then my Personal Folders again. The bottom personal
folder's icon is an image of several folders, and is a complete mirror of the
original personal Folders.

In the outlook folder in my C drive -
(C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\)
There is an Outlook.PST, OutlookHotmail-00000008.PST, Mailbox and Extend.dat

I'm still at a lost at what is causing this and how to put all of my
addresses in one folder

Hello again,

Foget my last reply and thank you for all of your help.

The hundred odd addresses in the Contacts folder which wasn't showing when I
looked up addresses in the address book, ended up being a simple fix/error.

The addreesses were imported and somehome I managed to import everything but
the email addresses .... I'm sure once I fix this, everything will be working
like advertised.

Importing nearly always causes problems with the email addresses of contacts
and should be avoided if at all possible.

I have just the same problem. The Contacts folder for addresses is empty, but the Contacts folder in my Personal Folders has many entries which cannot be accessed by 'new' emails. Clicking the To button gives a message that the address list cannot be displayed - the contacts folder cannot be opened. Click on OK and a Select names box appears which is empty, but there are two Select Names From, both called Contacts. The second one shows all my contacts, which allows me to choose a name from the list. This is a bit inconvenient, but the main problem is that I cannot use Auto-complete when typing the name in the To Box; it says the name is not recognised. I have searched for an alternative folder called contacts without success. I have also gone to Properties for the visible Contacts folder and ticked it to be used for the email address book, but it makes no difference.
Any further advice gratefully received.
