Double Outlook

Some weeks ago I purchased a 'stand-alone' version of Outlook 2003, i.e.,
not included in Office 2003. Now, wanting to use Word as my email editor, I
have purchased Word 2003, which was sold as a package including Outlook and
Excel. I understand that the package of these three programs is included on
a single CD, with a single registration.

Having now purchased two copies of Outlook, I would like to install one of
them on my wife's computer. Can I install my new Word and Excel programs on
my computer, and the new Outlook on my wife's computer (thereby 'splitting
the registration)? The vendor thought not. OR, if I install the new
Outlook on my computer as part of the package of three programs, can I
'de-register' my old Outlook from my computer and re-register it to my
wife's computer? Are there any installation and file/setting transfer
issues I should be aware of if I use the latter approach?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

Technically, you aren't supposed to split installations, so the vendor is
correct. I would be more worried about installing updates with a split suite
(it can be a hassle) - so I would uninstall Outlook and install the suite -
it should pick up your outlook settings without any problem.

Office doesn't support a 'deactivation' option, but it should activate on
your wife's machine over the internet without issues. Under some
circumstances, you may need to make a phone call to activate. You shouldn't
have a problem, other than the time required for the call - and probably
won't even speak to a live person, but if you do, just explain that you have
two copies and needed to change the machines they were on. Splitting the
suite would have the same activation issues - another reason not to do it.

Thank you for your quick response to my question, Ms. Poremsky. A few
questions more, please.

Is that the order in which I should proceed, i.e., *un*install the existing
Outlook program, *then* install the suite containing the new Outlook? If
so, would the new Outlook pick up settings, many saved emails (which I would
like not to lose), etc., from the previously uninstalled Outlook? Thanks
again. Sanford
