Double clicking explorer always opens a new explorer window

This just started happening, perhaps in the last few days. I just want explorer to show the double clicked folder or drive in the same window, same as if I right click 'explore' on a folder item

These are the things I've tried so far

1) Control Panel -> Folder Options -> Open each folder in the same windo
2) Uninstall all software installed in the last week (except nVidia driver and Internet Explorer 8 beta 2). Will uninstall these as soon as I can reboot
3) Downloaded ShellExView (shexview) and disabled every explorer extension except 2 that are required to run explorer at all
4) Ran Regedit and checked HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell for value other than 'none

Please help if you can. A Google search shows a few people with the same issue but no working solutions.

Do you have a System Restore point that precedes the problem?

I got this from
<http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Windows/Windows_Vista/Q_24375131.html>
and it worked. Double-clicking folders in explorer will now open in the
same window.

**********************************************************
* open a new "Command Prompt" window by right-clicking and selecting
"Run
as administrator";
* at the prompt, run the command "regsvr32 actxprxy.dll".

No point in posting a link to an Experts Exchange page. Many of us are
simply not willing to spend $1000 - $150 USD per year for what is
basically free in a whole lot of other arenas..
