I have discovered that i when i doubleclick my C: drive it automatically starts a search query. I have no idea how it got this way but i am wanting to know how in the world i can get it back to double clicking it and displaying the contents of the C: drive instead of starting a search.

This will solve the problem, but please back up your registry and system state before you apply. This is a registry based change/addition to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell to set the registry key for the search option when double clicking to "none". So when you double click it opens the folder (Thank God!)

download the registry vbs script from: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
find and right click on the "Search Opens When Double Clicking A Folder" (scroll down to line 18
save the script to your desktop, then double click it, you dont need to reboot to immediately see the change

oh, by the way I was searching this site to fix the exact same issue you are having, I knew it could be fixed via the registry, but had little time to create a solution so I googled it to find the answer

I am in no way guaranteeing this fix, use it at your own risk. However it does work, and I took a look at the script to see if it had any malicious code, it does not contain any, but again Microsoft recommends backing up your registry, system state and vital data before applying any registry changes

if you need any further help, email me at (e-mail address removed)
