Double click to rename folders in XP Explorer

I have just installed Windows XP for the first time. I can't find
anywhere to set Explorer so you can rename folders by double clicking
them. By default it seems folder names are underlined and single
clicking on them expands subfolders. You can still double click on files
to rename them. This behavior is different from Windows 2000, and even
Windows Server 2003, where you can double click folder names to rename
them in exactly the same way you can with files. There must be a setting
somewhere to change this.

Work with folders in the right hand column vs the left hand column. Also,
pause between the first click and the second. A quick double click will
open/explore the folder. A more reserved double click will allow a rename.
Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut (F2) to rename.

The underlined/auto-expand behavior you mention for the right hand column
can be changed here: File Options> View: Display simple folder view in
Explorer's Folders list. When this setting is disabled, you can do a slow
double click in the left or right column to perform a rename.

That's it! Thanks.
Folder Options->View->Display simple folder view in Explorer's Folder list.
I had that it checked. I thought for sure what I was thinking of would
have been the 'simple folder view'. Guess it was the other way around.

You're most welcome!
