"Double-click to edit object" function in PowerPoint stopped worki

All of a sudden, I can no longer edit an object in PowerPoint by
double-clicking it, nor can I double-click a slide in Slide Sorter and have
it come up in Edit mode. Did I inadvertently change a tool preference
somewhere? Might I have a virus? Anyone know what's going on here?

Lemmings Ridge,

Please, answer these questions...

What version, plus Service Pack, of PowerPoint is this?
What version of Windows?
If you double click a text box (not the text), does the Format Text Box
dialog open?
If you double click a chart, does the chart open for editing?
(Questions by Sonia Coleman)

Is there any chance that your mouse setting were changed?
The double click speed can be checked or set in the control panel under
'Mouse'.
If this is not the issue, please post back.
(Questions by Bill Dilworth)

Thanks

Enric

Have you tried the Glare Fix?

Shut down Windows
Power down your computer completely
Glare at it for five minutes
Start it up again

Don't laugh at it 'til you've tried it.

Office/PPT XP, SP1,
Windows XP Pro.

Double-clicking anything (text box, drawn object, chart, slide thumbnail)
does nothing. I have to right-click to edit or go directly to the toolbars.
Maddening! And I'm no PPT slouch.

Perhaps I'll have to re-install...grr...

You know, you're a couple of service packs behind. If you're a serious
PowerPoint user I recommend that you apply SP 2 and 3.
