DOS printing issues...HELP!!!

We are having an issue with printing through DOS app and troubleshooting it I
see that when I do a simpe DOS command line print DIR >PRN I get the error
"Access is denied". I then have to restart the computer and the printer (Oki
590) then I can print DIR >PRN. It works until I print in Windows then
starts giving printing errors again.

This error is what I believe is causing the problems with the DOS app and if
I can get pass this I believe it will work. This app is what is used to print
checks and it used to work fine until we moved to Windows network from
Novell.

"PRN" is, if I remember correctly, a virtual hardware device, which the
OS treats as a real hardware device. WinXP does not allow any
application direct access to hardware devices, and this property may be
interfering with your printing. What happens when you direct print jobs
to LPT1?
