When attempting to check an IP address I begin at Start,
Run and type "ipconfig". the DOS command prompt opens for
a brief momment and closes.
What can be done to have this window remain open?

Go to Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter.
When the Command Prompt window opens, type:
IPCONFIG , and hit enter.
