DOS based app grinds my system to a halt

Hi,

I'm running a single-user DOS app (I believe it's a dbase, based app)
and it grinds my system to a halt. I am running XP pro on a 2.0
Athlon box with 512 MB ram and over 30 gig of free HD space.

I have messed around with the properties for the app and tried every
combo of compability modes, but nothing helps. Whenever this thing is
running, CPU usage jumps to 100% and never moves, and while data entry
in the DOS app itself is ok, anything going on in Windows halts while
this thing is running. If I need to switch to another program for
example, I will have to shut this app down or else all other programs
will not respond.

The app is a very small data entry screen utilizing one .dbf table and
always ran without affecting anything in Win95 and 98, but not
anymore.

Any ideas why this may be bogging down the system and how I might be
able to get back to more "normal" multitasking in XP?

Thanks,
Jim

There is a dbase setting, memconfig or something like that, that needs to
be set in the config file for that application. Check out a dbase or foxpro
news group. It sets how much memory the dos app will consume. I don't have
the exact command anymore as all our software has been converted to windows
apps.
