Doom 3 demo

Well, if you want to get technical, I see your point. However, there is a
selection when UT loads, that says: "Single Player".

Yes, Doom 3 has a single player mode, but it's the same old boring game,
only with better graphics. Yawn!!!

I'm not quite following?
I think Doom3 runs pretty well considering what kind of
lousy rig I have, xp1700+/512mb ddr400/9600pro 128mb.
"Timedemo demo1" gives around 30fps and game has been
fully playable using medium details - so far.

I guess my CPU starts to choke before Radeon, because
enabling anti-aliasing etc. eye candy doesn't slow the game
down too remarkably...

I don't think the video is the biggest problem with D3... Room caching sucks
big time.

I can get 10 fps difference between the first and second run of the
timedemo. The first time through there are places where I get less than 1fps
and the second time it's smooth as silk!

Tried on my 3.2Ghz P4 with 9600XT and 512meg as well as the dual Opteron 242
with 9800Pro,768meg and running from a RAID 5 array of 8 drives.

512 Mb of RAM just don't cut it anymore.
Check this as well:

you sound like you'd be interested in the image_useCache and
image_cacheMegs settings.

Yep it's absolutely true. id and Activision released a game that is non
functional on half the cards out there. Nobody with an ATI card is buying
Doom 3.

I was too late hearing the stories and went out and bought it. I get 5fps
on my 9800Pro, my monitor is now permanently blurred and my CD drive almost
caught fire it got so hot. To top it all my dog isn't very well. Damn ID.

Anybody know when the Doom 3 demo is coming out? I'm holding of
buying the retail copy til I know how it handles on my machine and if
I should upgrade. Somethings telling me yes!

Radeon 8500 128mb 300/300
XP2400 TB @ XP 2700
512mb Ram

I played it using an AIW8500 which is clocked lower than yours. It was
adequate, but you lose a lot of the atmosphere as you can't get the shadow
effects that are so much what the game is about. It played though.

I would recommend that anyone wait for the demo though, for reasons of
gameplay rather than performance.

I was told that Doom3 is handicapped for ATI cards. Thanks be it to
someone in ATI's camp for leaking out a beta copy of Doom3. So, they

Yes, of course it makes perfect sense to not only make the game less
impressive for a huge section of the buying public, but also to alienate
them even further when it's discovered that this has been done.
switched cards, and have handicapped all ATI cards so all but the
most basic functions are disabled and hence will not work!!! As far
as I know, this is a rumor, but until I hear otherwise, I sure as
hell aint gonna plop down $50 for a game that's handicapped for my
9800 pro!!!!!
Has anyone else heard this story?

I heard the moon is cheese, and that Elvis lives there too! (So he's
probably even fatter than when he was down here on earth!). Anyway, I read
it on the internet, so it must be true.

The conclusion is obvious - you dog pissed in your machine and got an
electric shock. The fans are jammed so the system is overheating.

UT2004 is NOT a pure multiplayer...it has a super single player mode, if
you buy it. The free demo is limited.

Likewise...DOOM 3 is NOT a pure single player game. I think you're
confused.

As others have already pointed out, you missed the point.

Ever since I purchased UT2004 it's been MUCH more fun than Doom3. I don't know
how to describe it, but once I got past hell Doom3 just became a chore. Since
UT2004 brought back assault mode playing aginst the bots with my brother has
been much more fun than Doom3.
Doom3 was great up until sometime after hell then I just lost interest.
Ditto! What he said!

I saw it on a customers pc the other day, radeon 9600, 512mb of memory,
2.2ghzp4, it was painful to watch........................... On the lowest
possible settings it was still incredibly jerky.
