Don't you sometimes wish you never bothered with SP2?

I have a desktop computer, running XP Home and connected
to a broadband router through Ethernet cable, and a
laptop which connects to the same router with wireless
connection.
Before downloading and installing SP2 on both machines, I
had them set up as a network, with shared printer and
shared folders.

Having downloaded and installed SP2 on both machines, the
network has disappeared and I'm unable to even find
another computer in the work group, let alone share
printers and files.

I've tried running the network setup wizard again on both
sets - no joy. I've tried the suggestions with the new
Windows Firewall (disabled it completely) all to no avail.

I've tried amending the TCP/IP settings - again still
nothing.

What really annoys me is - prior to downloading the
update which was supposed to benefit me - everything
worked.

I don't suppose Microsoft will cough up for the engineer
to come out again and re-install my network as it was?

I'm sorry that SP2 has caused problems for you. I don't have enough
information about your setup to suggest a fix. You should be able to
go to Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs and un-install SP2.
