years, at ALL levels of Comp.
So you say I can BUY a Bigger screen or I can go and change fontys or
what have you? Something else I can do FASTER and CHeaper.. HIT THE CAPS KEY.

What you might want to consider is that you have entered into a
community that, like every other community in the world, has standards
of conduct and accepted norms - these Norms and Standards have been
around Usenet since the early 80's.

I have been in computers since 1976, have worked with every level of DOS
from 2.1 thru 6.2, I worked with all levels of Windows 3.0 and up, I worked
with TRS-DOS and I have been on the Internet since about 1986. I have never
seen any rules that said I COULD NOT USE CAPS. So if that is your peeve to
ignore people who do, Fine.. no loss.

Yea, I've been paid for code since 76, and on Usenet since 84, but the
difference is that I adapted to the community standards for posting. Why
would I want to change a community as large as Usenet for my own
benefit? That's like me going to the range and sitting between two
benches and shooting my 50 cal with a muzzle brake.

I will use what I want when I want, with or without your blessings and I
will do so without the loss of any sleep. IT is totally Insane to think a
person is SHOUTING when using Caps. Geez!

Maybe you should consider this simple thing: You posted into a community
of your own free will, that community has a long history of standards
and norms which you decided to ignore and insist they don't matter to
you. Don't get upset, it's just the way the world works - you try and be
a good community member or you get ostracized by that community.

Get a Life. With all the things
you could be writting about or helping to change, you seem to be Hell bent on
stopping people from using the dang CAPS key. Good God, man has the world
gone that crazy? LOL

I think you lumped me in with the people asking you to stop - my reply
to you was one trying to HELP YOU understand your mistake in this
community. I don't actually care if you post in CAPS or if you post
upside down, in reverse, in Hebrew in HTML, etc..... While others were

Getting rid of problems in the world require people working together. Part
of being in a society is observing the etiquette, and you have now ignored
it more than once. Typing in all caps is the Usenet equivalent of
*SHOUTING* and is very rude. Since you fail to heed the advice of others,
and refuse to not type in all caps, then you are placing yourself outside
the norm, outside the mainstream.

This is not a Community as per a Home Community, the difference, this has
an ever changing base. I suppose you will tell me that it is wrong for
people to use U for You, or I C for I see or LOL for Laugh out loud etc. I
mean I have more trouble deciephering that stuff than I ever had with CAPS.

only ONE case back then. This nonesense about CAPs etc is only recent and by
only a few people. I have never been offended by them and really don't see
anything offensive by people who use them, mostly after they have said it
makes it easier for them to read. I guess Compassion lacks on the Internet
huh? I guess people are so bent on dumbass rules that whether it causes a
handicap or not, makes no difference, Yes! I could use the magnifier feature
or the Larger font and then I would have to scroll all of the time to see a
single screen load. No Thanks. When I need to, I use CAPS and if you care to
pass on by my posts, I'll never know and therefore will never be offended.
We should make Canes illegal, and whatever else can assit person to operate
on a somewhat normal level... Keep up the Good work.... We need more people

You are mistaken - back when it was 110 baud and 300 baud, we typed in
codes - like l8r and such. We also used one case in many times due to
technical constraints - many of us were using terminals that didn't have
a shift key. This of is that had shift keys made use of them, as we do
now, and like it or not, it is the Community standard to use mixed case
in Usenet posts.

I've never said ALL CAPS was offensive, it's just not an the accepted
way to communicate in this community - there are many articles on Usenet
norms and practices. Again, it's not about you and what you want, it's
not personal, it's about fitting into a Community - and like it or not,
Usenet groups are often a very tight Community with known regulars like
any neighborhood in any city/state.

This nonesense about CAPs etc is only recent and by
only a few people.

Sorry, but I've seen it for almost 17 years, and since Usenet is only
just older than 20 (for the public that is), that clearly means it's not
"recent".

I've done my part to try and help you understand - I thought you might
not take it personally coming from another shooter/vet, but I guess I
was wrong. I suppose you marched in the wrong direction when you wanted
too.

No! I am NOT mistaken, QWERTY keyboards with shift has been around since the
Tandy TRS-80 Model one. QWERTY is the standard and the numeric keypad was
added in 85 as well as the 3 1/2" drive. The Acoustic Cup Modems and the
direct connect were 300 and 600 baud and we thought we died and went to
Heaven with 1200. You may be referring to the late 70s, but not the mid 80s.
Comptons came out with their Excylopdia on 1X CD in 85. Travel Agents were
using the net to book flights and everything was of course TEXT.
Only codes I used was to wake up the modem, set dial preferences and the
bit rates and whether it was Odd or Even and then when I had a connection, I
typed in commands. Hard drives were still 5 meg with some 10 meg and not
until after NASA was back in the air did you see 386 machines. In 85 we had
286 machines with 5 and 10 meg drives and 64k and 128k of RAM The 20 and 40
meg drives were soon arriving and were retailing for $500 and $800. The very
first computers were 4k RAM and only had linear tape for memory backup. Then
we had 16k machines and then Level II machines and 5 1/4" 80k drives and
Commodore had everyone fooled with their Commodore 64. Everyone thought it
was a 64K Ram machine and it really was 32k Ram and 32K Rom... Tandy had the
Color Computers and O/S 2 software. Windows WAS NOT the Industry Satndard,
everyone had their own. TRS-Dos, MS-Dos etc. Timex even had the Sinclair and
what a piece of crap that was, with Multi-function keys. But look at the palm
pilots now. Printers weren't even standard except for the Cable. You had to
down load drivers to run your Computer to your printer. IBM Proprinter II was
about the most standard. Printers were just getting to be 24 pin and the
clarity was crude as compared to a cheap Ink Jet now.
Tandy started converting to MS-DOS in about 85 and gave up on their
DESKMATE Machines.
It has taken years for Industry Standards to fall into place. keyboards
were first. We are still battles with Flash Drives and DVD and CD. I sold
one of the very first computers in 1976, it was Tandy TRS-80 4k Model One,
$2495. I sold a $39 cassette recorder with it, so the guy could copy simple
BASIC programs onto the cassette, leaderless was until later and then there
was C-10 and C-20s. Certified for no Drop outs vbut still recommended to dump
twice.
I played for hours with Eliza (artificial Intelligence program by the four
Dartmouth guys written in 1964) seperate keyboards, seperate CPU, seperate
Monitor (monochrome, white on Black) seperate power supplies for each.
Everything was in Basic or Assmbly Language (machine) I have watched
computers come from NOTHING to the ones of today with total awe. I am baffled
at 500 gig Hard Drives and yet, I have never seen any rules about not using
CAPs. Funny. I find it amuzing.
I was paid in my early years in the Corps with Blue IBM, "DO NOT FOLD,
SPINDLE OR MUTILATE" Paychecks with lotsa of retangle holes in them.
The THOR CD was invented by RCA and turned over to Radio Shack in 1985. It
was capable of reading, writting and erasing 1000s of times. Yet no one
wanted it. Why? Western Digital, Seagate, Teac etc didn't want anyone with a
portable memory source that held 20 times more on a single CD than their
BIGGEST Hard Drives. So Radio Shack tried to give the manufacturing rights
away and no one wanted it, not until just a few years ago Sony came out with
the Recordable Audio CD. and Hard drives were past the 1 Gig.
I have watched the Z-80 to the Z-8080 to the Z-8088 chips and onward,
watched the Industry accept standards and saw in 86 how much of an impact
NASA had on Computer technology. I use to do BATCH FILES to get tasks done
and now click on a silly ICON. I am amazed at the fact that I have over 4000
songs on my Hard drive all in WAV format and from my LP collection and I
still have 106 gig left and to think each song takes up 8 times as much
memory as what the first Winchester Hard Drive had for $2500.
Amazing I have still never seen any rules for CAPs.
