Don't understand how Original Posts are disappearing

Last nite something happened, only in this newsgroup. All Original Posts
disappeared and was just left with recent replies. Great, without the
original posts, don;t know what replies are for.

Anyone now why this happened, and only in this newsgroup?

Mine haven't, but I'm not using the msnews server.

Try F5 first, and see if that brings them back. Or check if you got it
set to "Hide Read Messages."

I know this is probably a really stupid question, but is your newsreader
set to clean out posts after a certain number of days?

The default for OE is, IIRC, that it purges messages after 5 days. If
you want the older messages back, you'll have to reset the folder and
download the messages again.

Check your settings in OE View > Current view.

You're using Outlook Express, I see. Check View | Current View. You are
probably set to "Hide read messages."

That's why it's standard netiquette to quote the message you're replying
to--so you can understand a reply without having to look back at the
previous messages in the thread. Personally, I *always* have my view set to
"Hide read messages." If I had to page through the thousands of already-read
messages to find those I haven't read yet, it would probably at least double
the time I spend participating here.

I had a glitch with OE where I lost some threads. I had to reset the local
file for the newsgroup and re-download all the headers then everything was
back.

Tools>Options>Read>>
[ ]Get [blank] headers at a time.
This setting defaults to [300]. There are times in this newsgroup that
one will get 300 header in a short period of time.
