Don't see windows assessment tool

Hi All,

I have windows vista ultimate (32bit Retail version in english).
I recently noticed that in "Control Panel\Performance Information and Tools"
I don't see my computer rating.
All I see is:
The header: "Rate and improve your computer's performance"
A line: Not sure where to start? Learn how you can improve your computer's
performance", but the link is dead.
And right after that, on the next line: "Last rating: <Time of last rating>"

All the section in between where the base score and details about my
computer is missing.

I can still get a new assessment by running "winSat.exe formal", and I can
see the output xml at the datastore folder.
I can also see my base score from "Control Panel\System".
But the GUI at "Control Panel\Performance Information and Tools" doesn't
show the score nor the details.

Thanks.

Kasper.

Try this. In the registry editor, navigate to the following two keys (both
keys may not be present, but you probably have one or the other):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Control
Panel \ Performance Control Panel

In the right-pane, delete the value named PerfcplEnabled (if found).

-AND/OR-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Control
Panel \ Performance Control Panel

In the right-pane, delete the value named PerfcplEnabled (if found).

Thanks a lot, it worked!!!
I had the second key (LOCAL_MACHINE).
After deleting it, the windows assessment tool started to display again!!!

Just out of curiosity, what is the purpose of the key I deleted?
What does it mean when the key is set to 0?
And how come it was set on my computer?

Once again, Thanks a lot

Kasper.

Glad to hear things are working. The key and value is a policy setting to
turn off access to the Performance Center. It can be set by Group Policy
Editor or tweaking programs such as TweakVI. Normally, the keys don't
exist. The value name PerfcplEnabled with value data 0 means that Control
Panel\Performance Information and Tools is not enabled, or "false".
