Dongle on remote system

Using RDC 1.0.2 on OS X, connecting to an XP Pro system.

The remote system has a parallel port hardware key for some software on the
system. When running the software at the PC itself, the key is recognized
and the software runs fine. When connecting with RDC, the hardware key is
not found.

I've tried playing with the Terminal Services group policies, but those
didn't seem to help. Also, the same problem is seen when using the RDC
client on a Windows machine.

Is there some mechanism in play here where the parallel port is not
accessible to RDC connections?

If the dongle is on your remote computer along with the software that requires this, then what is the need to access this device via Terminal Services?

This is known behavior... Unfortunately....

Ah - thanks, Jeffrey! This is a continuation of a thread begun in the Mac
RDP client group. I wasn't aware that this was "known."

What's a good feedback route to say "here's another customer who would like
this to work?"--MSWISH?

The user doesn't want to have to put another computer in his office. So, the
idea was he would put the PC in this lab, and just connect to it remotely.

Anyway, since not being able to use a dongle is known behavior (could they
at least document it somewhere?!?), he'll have to move the computer into his
office now.

I guess that would be the best way...

This has been posted a few times in the past in the terminal services
group about a year to two years ago... + I have tried working around
this with some of the engineering software we use that requires a
hardware lock (so we don't have to keep moving the lock, risking loss
- I wanted to set up a machine in a closet somewhere and access it via
RD).
