Domains / Workgroups, ahh the fun...

Hi All,

Iseek the groups assistance on the following tricky setup:

4 x XP Pro desktops all configured within a 'home' workgroup, sharing an ICS
connection
from one of them quite happily and file sharing using Netbeui to isolate the
'inside' of the network
from the 'outside' Internet accessible side using TCP/IP.

These all talk to each other no problem.

Enter the Laptops....

Each of two laptops that are occasionally connected are set up for
connection into work domains,
and both have on them a user name that is also on each of the 4 desktops.
Laptop1 is Win2000Pro and Laptop2 is XP Pro.

I can connect to laptop1 by typing its name in the explorer window ie.
\\Laptop1
and after entering user name and password (as per one of the users on the
laptop) can access the laptop1 shares.
If I attempt to access one of the desktop pc's from the laptop, I get the
following error message:
'\\Desktop1 is not accessible. there are currently no logon servers
available
to service the logon request'.
Laptop1 is setup to obtain an IP address automatically and is given one by
one of the desktops which
is manually configured as the gateway and DHCP server.

All 'puters can ping each other...
Internet shared connection is accessible to all 'puters.

Firstly, how can I access the desktops from the laptop1 without upsetting
the network domain settings
required for work?

Secondly, laptop2 is not wanting to show its shares on the other 'puters and
cannot be reached from the
other 'puters.

Any ideas on this one ?

Happy to provide further details if required...

Each of the laptops have local accounts with user names as per those setup
on each of the desktop pc's and NetBeui
installed.
Now on laptop1 when I login under a local account, I can get access to the
desktop pc's (after authenticating)!!
Only problem is a lengthy delay in connecting to the shares....
Once connected, data flows OK, ie. video streams OK.

If I connect from the desktops to the laptop1, I can navigate through
quickly (after authenticating).

IPCONFIG/ALL indicates exactly the same setup for both the laptops and
desktops, with different
IP's obviously.

Laptop2 still doesn't want to play.

Any more thoughts ??
