Copying files from a desktop

we have 2 laptops with XP. When i connect from laptop1 to a desktop and copy some big files from it takes a long time, say 100 mins. From laptop2, it takes only few minutes, say 5 mins. The configuration of both the laptops are the same and they are in the same LAN, 100 Mbps.

Any idea as to why this happens and How to tune the laptop1 for the problems?

Thanks,
GG.

Swap the network hardware: unplug the LAN cables from the laptops NICs,
and interchange them. If the problem moves, it kinda points at a bad
LAN cable or a bad router port.

Check that the NIC drivers for both laptops are set to 100 Mb/s and to
FDX. Note that automatic mode does not always work.

Try using the same credentials (username & password) on both laptops and
on the desktop. And, make sure your test is apples:apples by copying
into the same desktop folder from both laptops.
