Domain-to-Workgroup: Cannot log on to computer

R

Rusty Walther

I have a XP laptop that used to be a Domain member, and I
wanted to change it to Workgroup for home use. I went to
the System icon in the control panel, added a Workgroup.

The system prompted me for my usual XP password to be able
to do that, then added the Workgroup and prompted for a
required reboot.

After that reboot, my password no longer works, and I'm
locked out of my computer.

HELP !!!

After leaving a domain login with domain accounts
is no longer available. You must then log in with an
account defined on the local machine.

OK ... but the only thing I've ever used on this machine
is my domain UserID and Password. I have no idea what
accounts are defined on the local machine ... probably
none. And I don't know the Administrator password. It's
a system that I inherited as a fully depreciated machine
when I left my last job, and the company is no longer in
business so I can't call the IT guys to ask them.

Any ideas under those circumstances?

If that doesn't work out, you might try to reset the local Administrator
password with one of the methods mentioned here:
