Windows Login Problem

lI need some help. On my work laptop my username has Administrator group
privileges. My Username and Password use to let me Log into Windoes XP fine.
However, I was trying to add this laptop to my home network. So, I went
into MyComputer -> Properties -> Computer Name -> Change and change the
selection from Domain to Workgroup and then entered my home Workgroup name.
I clicked OK and was prompted to reboot.

When I rebooted my Username and Pasword would not work when I tried to Log
in to Windows. The message asked me to make sure my Username and domain
name were correct.

How can I can these setting by use the 'Domain' and not 'Workgroup'?

Well - you should not have removed it from the domain. You do not have to
be a member or 99% of domains and workgroups to access their resources from
a computer.

What you essentially did when you removed the system from the domain was
kill the ability to use the domain usernames on the computer. They are null
and void now.

What you needed/need is a local username/password. Your domain
username/password is of no use. Without that, you cannot even rejoin the
domain you were a member of before. (You need to be on the correct network
to do that as well.)

My guess is that you do not know a local administrative username/password
combination - or you would have been able to log on by now. You should take
the system to work and tell them what you did so they can log in as a local
admin and rejoin you to the domain and hopefully show you how to access your
home stuff without making that change again.

That is what I figured the answer would be. Someone at work should be able
to sign in as the Administrator user.
Thank you very much for the quick and thorough response. I can quit trying
to fix it any other way.
