domain problems after upgrading

Hi, my work computer currently is using Windows 2000, and loggs on to a
domain. I like XP a bit better, so I installed XP Pro on a seperate
partition, (not an upgrade), to ensure that I dont mess up anything. Now,
while installing XP, i named my computer the same as the 2000 was called, and
I tried to have it log on to the domain, in which access was denied. I guess
my permissions can't allow me to join a domain. Is there a way around this?
The network administrator is extremely hard to get a hold of at my work, so I
cant easily have them add my computer, but wouldn't you think that since i
named the computer the same name as the 2000 computer, it should of
connected? If i did file and settings transfer wizard from the 2000
partition transfer over domain settings to the xp partition? Is there a
registry key that would allow me to access the domain logon screen to let my
log in to the domain? Any help would be apprecaited!

What you did (giving both computers the same name) has probably destroyed
your ability to get either one to log onto the domain, but has certainly
prevented the XP computer from being able to. Have a long chat with your
domain admins about SIDs and domain membership and you'll understand better
why this is a bad idea.

A different install on the same machine makes it a different computer as far
as the domain is concerned.
Each installation has a unique Security IDentifier.
You need to treat each installation as a seperate machine.

If you try to give the machine the same name under different installs, the
domain will consider it an imposter, since it doesnt have the correct SID.

What you should do is :

Give the XP install a different name;
Join the XP install to the domain as a machine in its own right.
( The domain Admin will need to set this up for you. )
