Domain Not Available

Bruce

Running XP Pro SP1 on Dell Pentium 4 (1.8 Ghz)
workstations with the 1Gig Intel Pro/1000 Ethernet adapter
logging on to a Windows Server 2003 Domain. The XP
workstations boot extremely fast (in fact the login prompt
is presented in under 10 seconds). If the user attempts to
logon right away (or within 15 seconds after the
completion of the boot cycle), he/she gets the
message "Domain not available". However after 15 minutes,
the logon is successful. We have downloaded the latest
LAN driver from Intel's Web Site, we have forced the
switch and the NIC to run at 100Mbps full duplex, yet none
of these solutions have worked. We also updated to the
latest Intel Chipset files as well as attempted to use a
Microsoft suggested solution of disabling the Media Sense,
yet that did not work either. Has anyone experienced this
problem? Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi, Bruce -

Sounds to me like your PC is faster than your network
is :)

What you can do is set a local policy to force the
machine to wait for the network before presenting a login
prompt.

Run gpedit.msc and browse to Computer Configuration -->
Administrative Templates --> System --> Logon and set the
policy that says "Always wait for the network at computer
startup and logon".

hth -
