Hi...

A friend of mine was a day late paying the annual fee to Internic and
someone stole her domain name! The name is unique to the name of a very
small business...and would be useless to anyone else. www.kaslomotel.com

These people obviously did this to exploit my friend out of money as they
have offered to sell it back to her.

Is there not some regulatory body that can intervene? This was a small
error made and now she is going to have to pay big time as all her
advertising for the upoming year has the old name on it and she relies
heavily on Internet promotion of her motel to European tourists. She has
had the domain for many years....This is a disaster for her business.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it can happen as many of the registry services expire un-renewed domain names immediately, and
these same registry have been fighting Versign for not doing the same.

Actually, there is not much she can do about this unless the name is a trademark. If it is a
trademark, then see need to see:

wow,...that is truly nasty - one day late and bang?

trademarks are really tricky by the way, especially electronic ones...I just went through a nightmare trademark issue (not internet).
