Domain does not appear in the Location dialog

On a Windows XP Pro workstation, after joining a Windows
2000 domain, the domain is not listed in the "Select User
or Group" -> "Location..." dialog. Only the local
machine appears in the list. Consequently, permissions
to resources on the local machine (other than opening up
to Everyone), cannot be granted to domain users. Neither
can a domain user/group be added to a local group.

Any ideas?
 
First thing to check is that the client is using only
the correct DNS servers which can support AD.
