Doing system drive backup using Nero

A

academic

I just install an DVD rewritable drive and Nero 6.35 software.

I would like to backup my hard drive (40megs) so that

1) I can delete some files off the hard drive and later recover them from
the backup if I need them.

2) I can use the backup to restore the operating system (XP) and all the
files to a new drive if this one fails.

I noticed there is backup software with Nero.

I want to be sure I do this correctly because I will not be able to test the
second item above unless it's for real and don't want to learn then that I
could have done it better.

So the reason for this post is to request suggestions.

If I run the Nero backup are there options that I need to pick or types of
backup material, etc, that I should know about??

Thanks for any help at all

Nero software is NOT what you want to restore an operating system that has
failed. You want an imaging program such as Norton Ghost or Acronis True
Image.
