Doing Backups to Prepare for SP2

A

I have a Dell 8300, with all the bells and whistles.

Whenever I try to backup my C:\Program Files, I get a dialog box that states
"This disc is full. The backup will stop." It does too, boy.

Y'kno what? I don't think that in my 20 some years as an petroleum engineer
user of computers, that I've EVER gotten a "backup" to work.

By the way, I have a NEC DVD+RW drive installed.

Any advice? Or should I just install SP2, and let the devil take the rest
of this electronic marvel?

Thanks\

If you've gone 20 years without a backup, why are you worried now? Doing a
standard backup of applications serves no purpose; in the event of disk
failure or some other catastrophe you'll have to reinstall applications
anyway. You should
looking into Norton Ghost or a similar imaging application which will make
an
exact copy (an image) of your drive which may be reinstalled if your SP2
experience goes south on you.

So do I.

Whenever I try to backup my C:\Program Files, I get a dialog box that states
"This disc is full. The backup will stop." It does too, boy.

Someone else already suggested using an image program for backup of your
applications.

However, the backup utility I use, "BackUp MyPC," has the capability to
create a so-called "disaster recovery set." This enables it to restore
even applications and the operating system. So that should work too.

Any advice? Or should I just install SP2, and let the devil take the rest

No!!!
Because SP2 seems to have some real conflicts with some of the drivers
on my Dell 8300 configuration. After I installed SP2, I was getting
blue-screen crashes every day; then twice a day; and eventually, several
times an hour. The cryptic messages on the blue-screen seem to indicate
a driver problem; but they don't help me figure out which driver.

I was finally forced to remove SP2 because I can't figure out which
driver is causing the conflict.
