No windows (xp) does not come with word, it never has in any version of
windows.
Word is part of Microsoft Office, or part of Microsoft Works, or as a stand
alone. Any of these can be bought at your local computer store.

As the replies stated - XP Pro does not come with MS Word or any other
Office application. However, there are several free alternatives you
can download and install instead.

Open Office is an excellent replacement for MS Office and it's free:

602 Office is free (must be registered though) and is a smaller
download than Open Office.

Normally when you buy a new PC from a retailer they will give you a workin
copy of Msworks and sumtimes u can get the office package in a deal or
sumthing,but generally xp doesnt come with MsOffice iam afraid..

system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that

Yeah, like an *operating system* is going to include every possible
application that runs on that platform. You get competitors screaming
when Microsoft decides to include some crippled application that does a
bit of what the competitor's product does, and you want Microsoft to
corner the entire market with free software, huh? Why stop at Word,
Excel, and other components of the Microsoft Office Suite. Gee, why
doesn't Windows come with SBS, MS-SQL, Visual .NET, Visual Basic,
Encarta, Money, and all their other products? But wait, why just stop
at including all Microsoft products. Let's include all software.

Well, actually Windows could come bundled with Word. Just find someone
that will bundle it all up for you and ship it to you -- for the cost of
everything in the bundle. Oh, wait, there are folks like that. They're
called stores and online vendors. If you can fork over enough money,
they'll bundle together whatever you want. Oh, wait, maybe there is a
copy of Word in Windows. It's called Wordpad! That's what you get for
free.

comes with MSoft Works Suite too - cheaper). Either way it is not part
of Windows and never has been, though these applications are often
bundled on new machines by their builders
