Does Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) in XP Pro ever need internet access ?

I have XP Pro fully patched with all service packs. Every time I
install ZoneAlarm Pro, Windows Explorer asks for server access to the
internet. At this moment, I have Windows Explorer completely blocked
from the internet. Why would explorer.exe want internet access ? Thanks
in advance.

Yes, sometimes Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) needs internet access. Block
it under Server. In fact block everything under Server.
